Rv Living

The fifth wheel trailer is designed to be affixed and towed by a pickup truck equipped with a special hitch in the truck bed. These two-level units provide the maximum amount of living space per given trailer length.

With the "master" bedroom over the truck bed, fifth wheel travel trailers, or "fivers" as they are sometimes called, have become the RV of choice for many full time RVers. With all of the comforts of home, the fifth wheel trailer is perfectly suited for fulltiming.

Here are some basics when it comes to matching up the correct trucks with the right fifth wheel trailers…

4×4 or 4×2

If you plan on going off road, boon docking or camping on beaches, a 4×4 might just be the ticket. But if all you are going to do is stay on highways, park in RV parks and the occasional gravel/dirt campground, a 4×2 is the way to go. If honesty gained points I'm sure a few 4×4 owners would step forward and admit they have never switched into 4-Lo yet.

It pays to remember to have your recreational vehicle detailed professionally. It's not only a matter of keeping it looking good inside and out – it's a mater of protecting it properly from damage of all kinds and retaining resale value to boot.

Ultraviolet rays from the sun and smog can dry your exterior paint, causing it to oxidate and invite body rust. Removing the outer layer of paint by high speed polishing, followed by a thorough sealing, extends that new appearance after several thousand miles on the road. It's best to undergo a high speed polishing once a year.

Try a used Roadtrek RV for a real pleasure to drive wherever you go!

In addition to the excellent suspension, steering and braking capabilities of the chassis, Roadtreks have a much lower center of gravity than their taller cousins. Water tanks are located close to the axles for better weight distribution. With a much longer wheelbase (compared to the overall length) a Roadtrek provides unsurpassed highway stability.

(A Roadtrek 190's length is only 58% longer than its wheelbase compared to 91% for a 22' B+ motorhome with a 138" wheelbase.) Chevrolet's body-on-frame construction, a short rear overhang, "normal" and "towing" transmission modes, and an optional locking differential with external transmission cooler (n/a on 170 and Sprinter) provide superior towing performance.

Good Sam RV parks started from a tradition among RVers to help their fellows in distress and is becoming one of the biggest RV park networks in the US. For more information about membership and benefits, visit www.goodsamclub.com.

Continuing A Tradition of Serving RVers

The Good Sam Club began in 1966 when a group of RV owners put Good Samaritan bumper stickers on their rigs so fellow members would know they could get help on the road. From this small club it grew. In the early days, Good Sams members spread the word at RV parks and other club events. Soon everyone wanted to know how to get a Good Sam "smiling face" decal.

Imagine a luxury resort with four "waterfall" swimming pools, an 18-hole golf course and a glistening spa. Now imagine parking your room somewhere else if you don't like the view. The Indio Motorcoach Resort & Spa near Palm Springs, California, is one of a string of high-end parks taking the luxury RV business to a new level.

From Oregon to Florida, these parks are giving the new fleet of superexpensive motorhomes a suitably posh place to park (and in the right neighborhood). With spots alone selling for $200,000 or more, some of these parks come with Venetian-style canals, private docks and patio-side wine chillers. And with the number of people traveling domestically inching up 2.5% this summer, according to the Travel Industry Association, luxury RV resorts are booming even more.
